Job Description
***Only qualified Epic Beaker Analyst candidates located near the Rancho Cordova, CA area to be considered due to the position requiring an onsite presence***



We are seeking an Epic Beaker Application Analyst to support the operational and implementation needs of a new laboratory project. This initiative involves deploying Beaker Clinical Pathology (CP) and Anatomic Pathology (AP) to the Phlebotomy, Anatomic Pathology, and Point of Care departments at a new clinical facility.



Required Skills:

• Must hold current Epic certifications for Beaker Clinical Pathology and Beaker Anatomic Pathology. Additional preferred certificates in Epic Bridges, Bugsy, and EpicCare modules.

• Extensive experience participating in design of clinical laboratory and pathology workflows to support optimized utilization of the laboratory information system.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Epic Beaker implementations.

• Proven experience with Point of Care (POC) device implementations and integrations, RALS preferred.

• Proven experience with Epic Beaker, EpicCare, and third-party vendor integrations.

• Experience performing clinical laboratory information system testing either as an analyst or subject matter expert.

• Familiarity with HL7 standards for device integration and data exchange.

• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with laboratory instruments and devices.

• Experience implementing or supporting a laboratory information system as an IT professional or operational subject matter expert.

• Experience serving as a technical leader and information resource to clinical users and management, providing guidance and recommendations on optimal strategies and policies for quality, efficiency, and functionality improvement of clinical information systems.

• Demonstrated advanced written and verbal communication skills including the ability to convey highly technical information to all levels of clinical users and staff.



The selected Epic Beaker Analyst will be responsible for managing orders and results for Clinical Pathology (CP) and Anatomic Pathology (AP) departments, as well as overseeing the integration of devices, including those for Point of Care, ensuring seamless alignment with Epic. This role includes the build, implementation, configuration, and optimization of Epic Beaker modules, specifically CP and AP, along with expertise in managing device integrations. The analyst will coordinate with stakeholders to ensure a successful rollout of these solutions. Additionally, responsibilities include overseeing the integration of devices for Point of Care and ensuring proper workflow integration with Epic.



Responsibilities Include:



Integration Management:

• Implement and manage integrations between third-party vendor systems and the Epic Beaker Application

• Ensure seamless transmission of laboratory and pathology results, orders, and billing information to external electronic medical record systems

• Implementing multiple Point of Care testing devices integrated with RALS, ensuring seamless integration with Epic

• Configure and optimize workflows in Epic Beaker to meet the needs of laboratory staff and other stakeholders

• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and best practices for lab operations and pathology reporting



Application Build:

• Conduct application build activities to support orders, results and analyzer integrations which includes but is not limited to: configure reports, user security, outstanding lists, specimen labels, receiving activities, test result components, method records, and other related functionalities



Device Integration:

• Design, develop, and implement device integration workflows to ensure that laboratory instruments and devices are seamlessly connected to Epic

• Work with third-party vendors and technical teams to design, implement, and troubleshoot wireless and wired device connections

• Provide technical oversight on device interfaces, ensuring successful communication between laboratory equipment and Epic



Testing and Quality Assurance:

• Develop and execute a comprehensive testing strategy, including functional, integrated, and regression testing

• Perform testing on devices to ensure proper integration functionality within Epic

• Ensure all interfaces and application builds are rigorously tested to meet UCDH standards

• Conduct post-deployment testing to verify the successful integration and performance of all components

• Document and address any issues identified during testing, ensuring resolutions are implemented effectively
