Job Description
Role Overview:

• We are currently seeking a Contractor to join our team at Global Research and Technology Center in Kennesaw, Georgia.

• The incumbent will be a part of the Mechanical Characterization Team, working in collaboration with mechanical, applications technologies, shear, and metallography labs to provide leading-edge product and process technologies testing in current and emerging markets for Novelis.

• With world-class people and state-of-the-art facilities, the center plays a leading role in developing advanced materials and innovative technologies supporting Novelis customers and manufacturing plants.

• The Contractor will be a key contributor to various research and development projects focused on advanced aluminum products for the automotive, transportation, packaging, architectural, consumer electronics and specialty markets.

• The incumbent will possess basic knowledge and work experience in mechanical testing techniques, as well as, provide support for lab functions/activities.

• The Contractor will be responsible for the quality of testing and results output with limited supervision.



Responsibilities:

• Conduct laboratory testing and output data for projects; including, but not limited to, tensile testing, hardness , 3 point bending and dimensional analysis utilizing optics and CMM equipment

• Accurately CNC machine and measure samples for testing in a timely manner with minimal supervision.

• Carry out instructions within an existing work routine, identifying & reporting current testing status.

• Understanding risks associated with a course of action; identifying risks to supervisor or project teams.

• Provide data that is accurate and valid, and recognize data discrepancies or unanticipated results.

• Possess general knowledge of testing standards including: ASTM, ISO, DIN, etc.

• Clearly communicate basic technical information or results effectively to internal customers

• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with work group and other internal functional areas.

• Utilize equipment in a safe operating manner and in compliance with Novelis safety standards.



Qualifications

• Entry to this level typically requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, and a high school diploma and/or certification/vocational degree, or equivalent experience.

• Experience with sample preparation for mechanical analysis (e.g. CNC machining, marking, measuring, hydraulic shears, etc.).

• Experience with mechanical testing techniques (e.g. tensile, rockwell, micro hardness, bending, etc.)

• Experience with ISO 17025 is preferable.

• Ability to work with limited supervision from supervisor, project leader or senior technical staff

• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Proficiency with computers (MS Excel) and their application to collect, store and analyze data and images.



Soft skill requirements:

• Organized, persuasive communicator.

• MS Office experience needed.

• Excel, PPT and MS Word.
