Job Description
Required Education:
• Bachelor's (B.S. or B.A.) degree in a core science field such Microbiology, Biology, Cell Biology or Food Science
Required Qualifications:
• Degree plus a minimum of two years of paid work experience, of which at least 1 year must be in a business or university (paid-position) laboratory setting (references required)
• Experience with microbiological techniques, including plating, serial dilutions, and enumeration
• Experience with culture maintenance and storage
• Hands-on experience with microbial challenge studies
• Ability to work safely, effectively and harmoniously with others in a dynamic and changing R&D work environment
• Effective time management and ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in a dynamic R&D community environment
• Good verbal and written communications skills
• Proficiency in data recording
• Ability to flawlessly execute bench-work, and plan for studies
• Ability to work in a biosafety level 2 (BSL-2) lab following safety protocols
• Capable of learning and applying various new and modified techniques of analysis and applied research
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experienced in using common Microsoft tools to perform mathematical calculations and to create and edit graphs and tables
• Proactive in bringing new ideas to the team or the organization (innovating) to improve the work environment, the efficiency of lab work processes, and lab safety practices
The R&D Microbiology Laboratory Technician supports microbiological studies focused on evaluating preservatives in beverages. The Technician will be responsible for providing support to R&D Microbiologists during microbial inoculation studies, monitoring microbial growth, preparing media and reagents, and maintaining accurate records. The successful candidate must have a solid technical understanding of microbiology and aseptic techniques. This individual must have hands-on laboratory skills required to provide effective/ efficient support and to work safely. A strong work ethic, attention to detail/precision, and the ability to work harmoniously with a team of R&D Microbiologists are also required.
Job Details:
• Preparation of high-quality microbiological media and reagents
• Laboratory support for microbiological studies related to R&D Microbiology Preservatives research projects
• Maintain laboratory and inventory of supplies
• Maintain aseptic techniques and adhere to laboratory safety and quality protocols
• Operate and maintain lab equipment (e.g. incubators, autoclaves, pH meters)
• This individual will also be expected to contribute to building an inclusive environment and positive work culture within the R&D Microbiology Laboratory - **Only those lawfully authorized to work in the designated country associated with the position will be considered.**
